What’s Happening at Epworth
In this new year, Epworth is seeing new growth. We extend a welcome to the new minister of music, Constance Sauls-Wilkins, her husband, Steven, and her granddaughter, Connine,  Also in her entourage are Jackie Perkins, worship music leader; tenor Gary Medina, bass player, Victor Ayala and drummer, Michael Jones. All add their considerable gifts and talents to our expanding music department. Wallace Yvonne Tollette, completed training as lay speaker in 2007 and will be taking training in leading small groups. Also parenting classes are being offered on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and an art class for older children taught by artist, Jacqueline Withers.
Upcoming is the 2008 Holy “Hook-Up” Revival. Also, Epworth’s growth has precipitated a roundtable discussion about offering two services on Sundays. Youth Pastor Anna Mandelstamm is always in need of volunteer assistance. Please ask her this question, “How can I help?” and do it!

Jacqueline Withers – the Mural Artist

Jacqueline Withers has kept her promise …that the Tuskegee Airmen Legacy will live on …through education. Through her hard work and dedication she has been able to paint history on school walls, in churches and museums. As a Motivational Speaker, Jacqueline has talked to more than 25,000 students from all parts of the US. Two years ago the Detroit Chapter named her the “Airmen Mural Artist”. This year, 2008, she has been honored as a motivational speaker and her name has been added to the Detroit Speakers Bureau. Jacqueline has also encouraged three students to attend the Aviation School in Detroit with full scholarship. The following are excerpts from one of her speeches she gave in Detroit: …It seems like yesterday; I had a dream to be a great artist and tell a story I never thought I would be telling, the story of the Tuskegee Airman. I thank God for opening the door for me to meet part of history and plant seeds in my vision of what these men stood for. I truly believe if you have a vision to make something happen in your life, where you can help others, then you can move forward. I am now a part of the Tuskegee Airmen family as well as their history. A history in which I was never taught in school but in 2003 I found it and acted on it. My goal is to paint their history throughout the world and keep this message alive. A message more powerful than you will ever know. Did I think 60 years later I would be painting them or creating a project for our children to be involved with? Not in my wildest dreams. This is just the beginning. I will keep knocking on doors in honor of their great history. You have no idea how I feel to have my picture with my name and badge representing the Tuskegee Airman right next to them. What an honor to be in their museum and wear their uniform. At the exhibit this year we spoke to 1,800 children and teachers who were very excited about being a part of our activities. Children stood in line for my autograph and a chance to ask me questions. I thank God for using me in a way that I can make a difference for our children.

The Poet’s Corner

I’m Counting The Days
I count the days down, before I am able to talk to you.
I’m counting down the days, before I am able to speak to you and be by your side again.

Counting down the days.

Beauty, Kindness, Compassion, Flirting
All are seen by my eyes every day.
But there is a Beauty that I can not keep from thinking about every day.
My eyes linger every time I look at her.
Does she know that my eyes linger on her natural beauty?
I think that one name can sum it all up!
