Worshipping At Cheesman Park
On Sunday, July 8, 2007,
for most of the day, Cheesman Park’s Pavilion was filled
with lots of Methodist worshipping, meeting people from the
park and other Methodist. They ate lots of good food and
just had a great time.
These good Methodists
were from Epworth UMC, Warren UMC and St. Paul UMC.
Sunday's activities were
the end results of several earlier planning meetings by our
Pastor King Harris with Rev.Toni Cook from St. Paul UMC and
Rev. Eun-sang Lee from Warren UMC.
A number of people in
the park joined the three churches in their morning worship
service celebration. That number tripled when we started
serving food. Some had asked who was our caterer for this
event? Our caterers were Jessie Melson who fried 50 pounds
of catfish on site and Pete Schwartz who cooked over 30
pounds of chicken and Bar-B-Q’ed over 20 slabs of beef and
pork ribs. To ensure everything would be ready Pete started
cooking on Saturday. He also did the hot dogs and hamburgers
Sunday morning.
A number of the members
brought food to go with what Jessie and Pete had prepared.
The Pavilion gave us a
beautiful view of Cheesman Park.
Epworth’s next picnic
will be at Fuller Park on August 12, 2007. Epworth’s final
picnic for the year will be on September 9, 2007 again at
Fuller Park. Circle those dates on your Calendar.

Congratulations
Congratulations to
Wallace Yvonne Tollette who completed and received her
certificate for the Lay Speaking basic course in June. The
course covered what it means to be God’s called people and
how they may be at work for God in their own communities. It
provided learning opportunities in three areas of service
for lay speakers: leading, caring and communicating. Wallace
will be taking an advanced lay speakers course in the near
future to complete her training. Her next course title is:
“Lay Speakers Interpreting to Others / United Methodist
Church Heritage”. Wallace, once again, Congratulations on
your Lay Speakers studies and achievements.

Why God Made Moms
The following answers
were given by 2nd grade school children:
Why did God make
mothers?
·
She’s the
only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
·
Mostly to
clean the house.
·
To help us
out of there when we were getting born.
How did God make
mothers?
·
He used
dirt, just like for the rest of us.
·
Magic plus
super powers and a lot of stirring.
·
God made
my Mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger
parts.
What ingredients are
mothers made of?
·
God makes
mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in
the wirld and one dab of mean.
·
They had
to get their start from men’s bones. Then they mostly use
string, I think.
Why did God give you
your mother and not some other mom?
·
We’re
related.
·
God knew
she liked me a lot more than other people’s moms like me.
What kind of little
girl was your mom?
·
My Mom has
always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
·
I don’t
know because I wasn’t there, but my guess would be pretty
bossy.
·
They say
she used to be nice.
What did mom need to
know about dad before she married him?
His
last name.
