The Fulfillment Of A Journey
Of Faith
On the evening of June
16, 2007 Pastor King Hezekiah Harris was Ordained Elder in
Full Connection. A very large number of family and friends
were present to witness this joyous occasion.
That Ordination ceremony
marked the fulfillment of a long journey of faith beginning
when Rev. King Harris first heard the call from God to serve
the church and the world.
It continued as he
talked with many ministers and Christian leaders to help him
discern the direction of God’s leading in his life. He had
to meet with his District Superintendent, enrolled in the
Candidacy program and was assigned a candidacy mentor who
helped him work through the Candidacy Guidebook.
This whole process
prepared him for a public declaration of his call to
ministry before the Pastor Staff/Parish Relations Committee,
the Church Charge Conference and the District Committee on
Ordained Ministry.
After meeting with the
District Committee on Ordained Ministry and being certified
annually for two years he had to be recommended by a ¾ vote
for commissioning.
When Rev. King Harris
received the needed votes, he then became a probationary
member and candidate for three years. During this time he
continued to meet with his mentor, submit written
assignments to the Board of Ordained Ministry (BOM)
registrar in designated time periods and was under the
direct supervision of his District Superintendent.
He had to interview with
the BOM committee at Epworth UMC, review comments by church
membership with BOM and receive their recommendation to be
voted into full membership and orders during the Rocky
Mountain Annual Conference.
His ordination as an
Elder on June 16th comes as the fulfillment of
his journey of faith, but it marks the beginning of a
lifetime of leadership in “Service, Word, Sacrament, and
Order.”
Congratulations Elder
King Hezekiah Harris on fulfilling your journey of Faith.
