Metro District Annual Conference

The Metro District Annual Conference and Celebration for 2007 was held on February 24th at Lakewood UMC. The theme was “Weaving Our Many Songs”, Giving Voice to Our Diversity. Threads within our weave were represented by the Vietnamese choir, Tongan Faith Community choir, Rafael & Rebecca Martinez and family, Ghanaian Wesleyan United Methodists choir and the Metro District choir which the Sounds of Epworth were a part of. Ross Stefansen was nominated as an Equalization Member from Epworth UMC. Ross will be one, of many, representatives from the Metro District who will attend the Rocky Mountain Conference in June of this year. For lunch, each person attending brought a can of soup to make a vegetable stew and bread to accompany the stew. The meal was very good. Some churches brought displays about their church’s history and culture. The turnout was low compared to last year’s but spirits were high. Burns Memorial UMC will be hosting this celebration in 2008.

 First  Sunday  Chefs  Meeting

I’m sure most of you think the “First Sunday Pot-Luck” can’t get any better, but there are some chefs who are working hard to make this meal even better. They are Sister Grace Stiles, Sister Marlene Albert, Sister Juanita Davenport-Brown, Sister Carolyn Lampkin and Brother Clarence Williams. They will be meeting regularly to plan, discuss and improve all areas of our pot-luck meal. One area that will get more attention… will be a “better menu for diabetics”. Please let these chefs know what you think of the first Sunday pot-luck. The chefs will meet March 1, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. at Epworth. Anyone is welcome to join us. Help them make the first Sunday meal better for everyone.

Welcome  Marcus Gasco

Brother Marcus is Epworth’s newest member. On February 18th he joined Epworth UMC. Brother Marcus has been attending Epworth’s Sunday morning worship and Bible study classes on Wednesday evenings for some time. He hasn’t wasted anytime on finding a job, Brother Marcus will be operating the sound board for the 11 a.m. worship.
