A Vigil For Gilbert Garcia
A vigil was held at Epworth
UMC last week for Gilbert Garcia who was shot in front of the
church on February 8, 2007.Friends of the family set up a
memorial at the corner of the church where Gilbert’s truck hit
the building. The youth in this neighborhood who knew Gilbert
wanted to hold a vigil to remember him even after his funeral
had taken place. With their help this vigil was planned. His
mother, Melissa Garcia, spoke to a crowd of over 200 people. She
asks anybody who has information about the February 8th
murder of her 18-year old son to please come forward and help
bring closure to this case. Persons with information should
contact Denver Crime Stoppers. Assistant Pastor Ronald Wooding
asked all parents and young people who came to the vigil, as
well as any other interested Denver citizens to participate in
the upcoming “Jail Is No Place To Be Somebody” conference. It is
sponsored annually by the NAACP Youth Division. And the
conference will be held at East High School on April 14th,
from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. For more information, please contact
Epworth church at 303-296-6287. The Epworth Foundation along
with six other Family-to-Family sites throughout Denver will
co-sponsor this event. This year’s event will focus again
on the high crime rate in our communities and the gang violence
that has made such a devastating impact in Denver.

·
“Don’t let
your worries get the best of you, remember, Moses started out as
a basket case”
·
Some people
are kind, polite, and sweet-spirited – until you try to sit in
their pews.
·
Many folks
want to serve God, but only as advisers.
·
When you get
to your wit’s end, you’ll find God lives there.
·
Opportunity
may knock once, but temptation leans on the bell.
·
Quit griping
about your church; if it was perfect, you couldn’t belong.
The
phrase that is guaranteed to wake up an audience: “And in
conclusion.”
