Musings From The Pastor
Isaiah 35:3-4
3 – Strengthen the weak
hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who are
fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will
come with vengeance, with the recompense of God; He will come
and save you.”
I often wonder how do we see
ourselves. What is it that we think we are doing here? Is this
just a place for social services to occur? Do we have purpose
beyond the food and clothing?
As I ponder these questions
and others, on occasion I feel a bit of uncertainty. Am I
strengthening the hand of this congregation, or am I causing
this church to become overly dependent upon the pastor? Have I
offered enough teaching? Have sufficient opportunities
been made available? These questions keep flooding my mind. Yet
I am sure that God has called and caused me to be here for a
season; and, so I praise him for that.
Then the question comes to
mind: are we, the congregation, doing as Paul says in 1
Thessalonians 4:18 Therefore encourage one another with these
words; Are we using words to encourage, to lift up to remove
fear? If we are not we must start now. This congregation is
still very small, but, we are growing. This congregation still
has many of its members as baby Christians, but we are growing.
This congregation is rebuilding and redefining itself, but it
still is a leader within the conference.
Therefore I call you to
hear the words of Isaiah well, and to know that your God is on
His way… are you ready for Him to come?

Poinsettias For The Holidays!
Clarence Williams has
placed an order with Sam’s Club for 30 poinsettias to be
delivered on December 13th to Epworth UMC. We will
only need 8-10 of the plants for decorating the church,
therefore the remaining (20 or so poinsettias) will be sold to
members for $10.00 each. These are large plants (if sold
individually) would sell for $15-17.00. If you would like to
have one or more of these large poinsettias for the holiday,
please see or call Clarence Williams at H – 303-791-2068 / Cell
phone – 303-931-3746.

Your Support Is Needed!
The next major event for
Epworth UMC is the Thanksgiving basket distribution on November
17th of this year. We expect to serve about 8,000
baskets. Everyone’s help is going to be needed to make this a
successful event. We are in need of raising about $224,000.
We think we have identified about $125,000, leaving about $100,000 yet to raise. You should be asking everyone
that you come into contact with to take part.
If you
know of anyone who will need a Thanksgiving basket, you can have
them log on to the Epworth website at:
www.epworthumcdenver.org and sign up. Anyone can call
Epworth church at 303-296-6287 for more information.
